Unfortunately, not all orchid enthusiasts can easily make their orchids bloom. Various questions about making this flowering orchid often appear in online discussion forums for ornamental plants.

Actually, making a flowering orchid is not as difficult as one might imagine. As long as you know the treatment. Here are some things you can do to make orchids bloom soon.

Adjust the light intensity and humidity
Adjusting the intensity of sunlight is one of the stimulating flowering techniques that you can do on orchids. For example, Dendrobium requires 4,000-5,000 fc (foot candle = unit of light intensity), Phalaenopsis 2,000 fc, and Cattleya 3,000-4,000 fc. As a rule, the intensity of sunlight during the day is 10,000 fc.

In addition to the intensity of sunlight, humidity is also very influential in the flowering process. The humidity for Phalaenopsis should not be less than 60% with an ideal temperature of 28-32o C. Meanwhile, the humidity of Dendrobium and Cattleya should not be less than 50% with a temperature range of 28-32o C.

Three months before the set time target for flowering, orchids are dried in the sun for three hours from 7:00 to 10:00, every day. After being dried in the sun, put the orchid back under the shade net with 35% light intensity.

Unlike Dendrobium and Phalaenopsis, Cattleya just needs a longer night atmosphere. Every 16.00 - 06.00, Cattleya must be covered with black cloth. Ideally, Cattleya needs a dark atmosphere for 13.5 hours. Next, give a lighting of 3,000-4,000 fc for about 10.5 hours from 24 hours. The treatment is carried out every day so that flower buds appear a month later.

Regarding fertilizer and irrigation
Fertilizing must still be done on orchids. Otherwise, the orchid will still not bloom.

A good fertilization is through the leaves because the leaves have a greater absorption than the roots. Do not apply fertilizer by sprinkling directly into the pot. Fertilizers that are absorbed by the roots are only fertilizers carried by water. Meanwhile, the rest will settle in a pot and could become a potential place for disease development. The right time to fertilize is when the leaf mouth is open, which is at 08:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 17:00. Therefore, the process of absorption of food takes place faster.
