International Classification of Primary Care (CIAP 2)

Since June 2015, e-SUS AB is universal, which means that all municipalities use it to inform the actions developed in Primary Care which use the International Classification of Primary Care (CIAP) for the registration of diagnoses

What is CIAP?

The International Classification of Primary Care follows a logic of chapters to a certain extent similar to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), but their similarities end there.

The International Classification of Primary Care (CIAP) is a classification method for primary care meetings. It allows the classification of the patient's reason for the meeting, the problems / managed diagnosis, primary care or general health interventions and the ordering of the data from the primary care session in an episode of care structure. It was developed by the WONCA International Classification Committee (WICC) and was first published in 1987 by Oxford University Press (OUP). A review and inclusion of criteria and definitions was published in 1998.

The second revision was accepted within the Family of International Classifications of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The classification was developed in a context of increasing demand for quality information on primary care as part of the growing worldwide attention to global primary health care objectives, including the WHO goal of "health for all".
