At the invitation of Bishop D. Cândido Penso, the first Franciscan Friars arrived at the National Agricultural Colony of Goiás (CANG) to assume the pastoral work of the region, thus evangelizing the people who lived here. At the same time, they also started work in the educational field. On November 15, 1947, D. Cândido Maria Penso, OP, created the Immaculate Conception Parish.

The friars carried out various pastoral work in the region, serving not only CANG, but other distant locations. There were several groups and Congregations in the Parish, such as: Daughters of Mary, Mariana Congregation, Apostolate of Prayer, Catholic League, Vincentians, Secular Franciscan Order and others. These groups had the task of animating the religious, cultural and social life of the Parish. It was found that at the same time, most of the population concentrated in the countryside, and to facilitate the religious life of the farmers, the friars built chapels in several localities: Córrego do Alegrete, Córrego do Sapé, Poção and Capelinha de São João along the highway that connects Colônia (today Ceres) to Carmo do Rio Verde.

In 1948, the Immaculate Conception Parish School - Primary Course was born, with approximately 150 students. In the year 1950, the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany arrived to help in the pastoral and educational work. In 1952, in response to the society's appeals, the Imaculada Conceição Gymnasium, now the Imaculada Conceição College, started to function, thus realizing the dream of the friars and the community. It is evident that the Franciscan Sisters were the founders of the Immaculate Conception Gymnasium.1954, the Colony is elevated to a municipality and is now called CERES.

The friars built the São José, São Francisco and São Sebastião chapels. In the period from 1962 to 1972, several important events took place in the history of our Parish, among them, the reformulation of the Liturgy and Pastoral Action carried out thanks to the Second Vatican Council, convened by Pope John XXIII and concluded by Pope Paul VI; death of the diocesan Bishop and appointment of D. Tomás Balduino; convocation of priests and community leaders for a Diocesan Assembly, held in Ceres.

1972 construction of the new Mother Church. Ordination of Frei Donário (son of Ceres) presided by D. Antonio Ribeiro, Archbishop Emeritus Metropolitano. In 1974 the new Mother Church of Ceres was inaugurated, whose architecture is unprecedented in the country and all details have a biblical-theological foundation. That same year, the Friars left the Immaculate Conception Parish, so Dom Tomás invited the Irish missionaries of the Congregation Oblates of Mary Immaculate to work in Ceres, who arrived in the Parish in the same year.

With the Oblates, many changes came among them: biblical, catechetical and doctrinal formation that encouraged political and social formation. Currently, the Parish is made up of 13 urban communities, 5 rural communities, 9 pastoral ones, Missionary Childhood, movements and services (RCC and ECC), in addition to several evangelization groups that meet during the week in the houses. There are still some groups in the Parish that were created at the time of the Friars: the Vincentians, the Secular Franciscan Order and the Apostolate of Prayer. Today, the Immaculate Conception Parish has sought to invest in Pastoral Communication because it believes that this is also a space for mission and evangelization.
