Ghiasuddin Abul Fattah, Omar ibn Ibrahim Khayyam, is one of the geniuses of Iranian science and literature. He was born in Neyshabur in 439 AH. Khayyam's life coincided with the religious strictures of the Seljuk Turks and the Abbasid Arabs who had one sword and the other a religion. Khayyam studied in his hometown and excelled in wisdom and religion.
Khayyam spent some time in Samarkand doing research and teaching and then went to Isfahan and spent nearly twenty years in that city. The result of this period was the abundance of observations and correction of the solar calendar, now known as the Jalali calendar.
The Jalali calendar is the calendar we know today. In this calendar year, the Earth's orbit around the sun is approximately 365 days 5 hours 48 minutes 45 seconds. This number is divided into twelve months. The first 6 months are 31 days and the next 5 months are 30 days and the last month is 29 days. Every four years, a year is called a leap, and the last month is counted as 30 days to correct the deductions of three years ago. In Jalali's calendar there is a time difference every five thousand years.
After the death of Khaje Nizam al-Molk and Malekshah Seljuk Khayyam returned to Khorasan and settled in important cities such as Neyshabur and Merv, teaching and writing, and eventually died in his hometown of Neyshabur in 517 AD.
Khayyam's ideas have been further expressed in his poems. He was a child of the era when the Turks and the Abbasid religion had created many hardships for the people, so the language Khayyam had chosen to express his ideas is a Kenyan language that sometimes shows very bold and sometimes very conservative It gets complicated. Over the past two hundred years, Khayyam's poems have been translated into various European and Asian languages and millions of millions of people from different cultures have liked and enjoyed reading them.
Khayyam, as a mathematician, has an important place in the history of mathematics in the world, and his views and writings on the golden age of Iranian culture and science are very important to researchers in the history of science.
