See which Saint of the Day and have a list of various saints in the Catholic Church. Learn the stories, how and why these blessed souls became saints and prominent characters in the history of the Catholic Church.

Holy is all that is holy, that is, which is according to religious precepts and divinity [Psalm 15/16, 3] [S. Matthew 5, 3-12].

To Catholic Christianity, "holy" is every one who is already in heaven with God, waiting for the parousia (second coming of Christ) [Revelation 5, 7-10, 8, 2-4] [2 Maccabees 15, 6 -17]. Those whom the Catholic Church recognizes as saints through canonization are the people who have done a marvelous work, or whose lives bear witness to other Catholics [1 Cor 12:31]. In the Orthodox Church and in the Anglican Church, people recognized for special virtues may also receive the title of saint, but the Catholic Church has generated the most saints in its history. This title denotes that in addition to great character, one is in the grace of God (in heaven). Those saints who do not have formal recognition of the Catholic Church receive the title of Saints Anonymous. To celebrate the honor of these saints, All-Saints' Day was instituted by Pope Gregory III.
