Public Dialogue at the Grand Mosque

Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih al-‘Utsaimin - a very popular and charismatic contemporary Wahhabi cleric in Saudi Arabia, has a very pious and charismatic teacher among Wahhabis, namely Shaykh Abdurrahman bin Nashir al-Sa'di. He is known by the nickname Shaykh Ibn Sa'di. He has many essays, among which the most popular is his work entitled, Taisir al-Karim al-Rahman fi Tafsir Kalam al-Mannan, a 5-volume thick interpretation book, which follows the paradigm of Wahhabi thought. This interpretation among the Wahhabis equals the position of Tafsir al-Jalalain among the Sunnis.

Shaykh Ibn Sa'di is known as an extreme Wahhabi scholar. However, sometimes he is easily aware and willing to follow the truth, wherever the truth comes from.

One time, al-Imam al-Sayyid ‘Alwi bin Abbas al-Maliki al-Hasani (father of al-Sayyid Muhammad bin‘ Alwi al-Maliki) was sitting on the foyer of the Grand Mosque with his students in his recitation halaqah. In another part of the foyer of the Holy Mosque, Shaykh Ibn Sa'di also sat with his men. While the people at the Grand Mosque are immersed in worship. There are prayers and some are tawaf. At that time, the sky above the Grand Mosque was shrouded in thick, hanging clouds. It seems like it will soon be raining heavily in the Muslim holy land.

Suddenly the rain fell down heavily. As a result, the water channel above the Kaaba flows the rainwater swiftly. Seeing the water so swift from the channel above the cube-shaped mecca of the Muslims, the Hijaz people as their custom, immediately rushed to the channel and took the water. They pour water into their clothes and bodies, hoping to get blessings from the water.

Seeing this incident, the civil service police officers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who were mostly from the Baduwi people of the Najd region, were shocked and thought that the Hijaz people had fallen into the mud of shirk and worshiped other than Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala with the blessing of barokah from that water. Finally, the civil service police approached the crowd of Hijaz and said to those who were taking the blessing of rain water flowing from the Ka'bah channel, "O polytheists, don't do that. That is shirk. That is shirk. Stop it! " Such was the strong rebuke of the Wahhabi kingdom's civil service police.
