The Adventures of John Watson is a unique and challenging game in which you take on the role of Dr Watson, the trusted friend of Sherlock Holmes. You are presented with a series of intriguing crimes which you must solve by gathering enough information to identify the culprit.

Each adventure begins at 221b Baker Street, where you and Sherlock Holmes are visited by an old friend, such as Inspector Lestrade, or a new client. Once your visitor has described some seemingly impossible crime, it is your job, as Dr John Watson, to solve the case and identify the culprit. You can visit various locations that may be relevant to the case by tapping on a map of Victorian London. At each location you obtain new information about the crime including further places you can visit.

Once you feel you know who has committed the crime, you can return to Baker Street and inform Sherlock Holmes, who will either confirm you are right or point out why you are wrong. Once Holmes agrees you have deduced the correct culprit, you will be given a detective rating out of ten – you lose points for wrong guesses and visiting unnecessary locations.

You can easily change the size of the display text, and zoom in and out of the map of Victorian London. So the game can be enjoyed on any size of phone or tablet. And you can exit an adventure at any point, saving your current position.

Five exciting adventures are included in the game. These are:

* The Adventure of the Prague Necklace. Sherlock's brother, Mycroft, visits you one Sunday evening with the disturbing news that the Prague Necklace has been stolen from an exhibition of the Bohemian Crown Jewels. The exhibition room was locked and guarded by the police when the necklace was taken, and Inspector Jones is completely baffled as to how the crime was committed.

* The Adventure of the One-Sided Duel. Inspector Lestrade visits you to ask for your assistance in solving the murder of Eugene Adams, a popular American actor who was appearing at the Gaiety Theatre. His body was found in a back alley and it appears he was shot with an old-fashioned duelling pistol.

* The Adventure of the Green Briefcase. You are visited by the widow of Edward Hartnett, a businessman who was found bludgeoned to death six weeks ago. The police have been unable to make any progress. Hartnett was found late at night in a locked office building and only four other people had keys – but each of them has a watertight alibi.

* The Adventure of the Viscount's Son. You are visited by Viscount Thornton who is in a state of considerable distress because his infant son, Percy, has been kidnapped. Thornton has received a ransom note which demands £1,600 in cash and says that Percy will be killed if the police are contacted.

* The Adventure of the Deadly Seance. You are visited by Inspector Flowers who has been unable to solve the murder of Jabez Pugh, a businessman and newspaper proprietor. He was attending a dinner party where the guests were being entertained with a seance. While the lights were turned off, someone plunged a knife into Pugh's back.

Once you have downloaded the app, you can play the Adventure of the Prague Necklace for free. A single in-app purchase allows you to play the other four adventures. The app is completely advert-free.
