East and West clash! In this stylized puzzle experience, you must test your intelligence as you guide two different knights of two different worlds and values to their destiny. Created by a team of four guys, this game seeks to bring a unique take on localization to the art of video games. Everyone knows Chess, right? Not necessarily. If you’re from Japan, you are likely more familiar with Shogi. Both nations have their own cultures and experiences. Knights is designed to bring these two cultures together and challenge them to explore each other. Whether you follow the Western ideals of individuality, self-expression, and exploration, or you ascribe to the Eastern ideals of structure, destiny, and self-improvement, you will need to push yourself in order to be victorious.

Inspired by the artistic styles of Medieval art and Japanese Ukiyo-e (woodblock print), and the narrative styles of movies like The Last Samurai, and created in the course of four months, this game is the result of the hard work and determination of four college seniors. As the lead artist and localization expert, Alexander Coelho strived to create an experience that anyone can pick up and enjoy, tailored to each player whether they be American or Japanese. As the lead programmer, Mark Garfinkle pushed himself to make a challenging and satisfying puzzle system utilizing both Chess and Shogi’s piece movement rules. As the lead UI designer, Noah Gilston dedicated himself to creating an interface that was a perfect blend of unique and familiar, as players can quickly grasp concepts potentially foreign to them in an intuitive way. And as the project head and lead level designer, Chance Coelho worked hard to lead this project and to create thoughtful and engaging puzzles that take full advantage of the intricacies of Chess and Shogi.

So join us in this wonderful experience! Challenge yourself intellectually and culturally! Learn what it takes to bring together these unique and multi-faceted cultures in the wonderful medium of puzzles, board games, and video games! With the open possibility for future content such as new levels, expanded locations, and unlockables, all at a reasonably low price, this is a must-have game for puzzle-fans and cultural enthusiasts alike!
