Hydroponics in the world of agriculture is also known as plant cultivation without the use of soil media or soilless culture. Hydroponics comes from Greek, divided into two syllables, hydro which means water and ponous means work. In accordance with this meaning, hydroponic farming is a farming technology that uses water, nutrients, and oxygen. The most prominent difference between hydroponics and conventional cultivation is the supply of plant nutrients.

Various hydroponic systems:

- This NFT (NUTRIENT FILM TECHNIQUE) system is the most popular way in hydroponic terms. This NFT system continuously streams nutrients dissolved in water without using a timer for the pump. This nutrient flows into the gully through the roots of plants and then back again to the water reservoir, and so on.

EBB & FLOW SYSTEM works by temporarily flooding the growth container with nutrients to the water to a certain extent, then returning the nutrients to the reservoir, and so on. This system requires a pump that is connected to a timer.

- The WATER CULTURE system is a simple hydroponic system. Containers that support plants are usually made of Styrofoam and float directly with nutrients. The air pump pumps air into the air stone which makes bubbles as a supply of oxygen to the roots of plants.

The WICK SYSTEM system is one of the simplest hydroponic systems and is usually used by beginners. This system is passive, because there are no moving parts. Nutrients flow into the growth media from the container using a type of wick.

-Drops system (DRIP SYSTEM) is a hydroponic system that is often used today. The operating system is simple, using a timer that controls the pump. When the pump is turned on, the pump drops nutrients to each plant. In order to stand up straight, plants are supported using other growing media such as cocopit, roasted husk, ziolite, sand, etc. besides the soil.
