Get to know Imam As-Suyuti

1. Nasab
His full name is Abdurrahman bin Kamal bin Abi Bakr bin Muhammad bin Sabiquddin bin Bakr Uthman bin Nadziruddin al-Himam al-Khudhairi as-Suyuthi al-Mishri as-Shafi'i. His Laqab is Jalaludin as-Suyuthi while his chew is Abu Fadhl.

His grandfather, Sabiquddin, is an expert in nature and is a sheikh of the Tariqah in the world of Sufism. The family of Suyuthi priests were generally high-ranking people, some were government officials, some were big businessmen at that time. Only Imam Suyuthi's parents are concerned about serving in religious scholarship.

2. Birth
He was born in an area called Asyut in the land of Egypt on the eve of Sunday in the month of Rajab in 849 H. Imam as-Suyuthi grew up orphaned. His father died at the age of Imam as-Suyuthi not even six years old. In his childhood as-Suyuthi earned the nickname Ibnul Kitab (children of books), which is when the mother was pregnant, the father asked him to get some books in his private library. It was when she wanted to take the books that the mother felt she was about to give birth, and finally the little baby as-Suyuthi was born among the books in her father's library.

3. Journey to Study
The journey of studying for Imam as-Suyuthi has indeed been instilled by his father even since he was a toddler. Namely when the father often took him to attend the majlis science of a famous shaykh, who later he would later find out - through his father's colleague - that the shaykh was al-Imam al-Hafidz Ibn Hajar as-Asqalani.1

Before reaching the age of eight, Imam as-Suyuthi had memorized the Qur'an and several other books such as Umdah al-Ahkam by al-Maqdisi, Minhaj an-Nawawi, Minhaj al-Baidhowi and Alfiyah Ibn Malik.
