The mystery of the Island is one of Jules Verne's most popular novels and is also the work in which the unforgettable character of Captain Nemo makes his reappearance.

After escaping in a balloon from the Civil War, five Americans, gathered around the engineer Cyrus Smith, are shipwrecked managing to reach a desert island.

The five protagonists only have their ability to survive. However, mysterious phenomena occur on the island that cannot be explained.

With the story well advanced, Captain Nemo makes his appearance, and the secret of his mysterious past is revealed.

Updating and at the same time refuting the myth of Robinson the island as the quintessential space for adventure, the isolated man's dialogue with nature, this story is the best-known variant of the different approaches that Jules Verne made to this theme, of such outstanding presence in his literary universe.

Allegory of the history of our species and the conquest of nature by man, the protagonist Cyrus Smith is the summary of all the scientific and technical wisdom of the time and the application of his vast theoretical knowledge to the practical problems that allow us to establish the foundations of the island's colonization reflect his Verne's great admiration for applied science.

Jules Verne was famous for his tales of fantastic adventures, always narrated with a tone of scientific credibility, where he predicts, with great precision, a multitude of scientific achievements, inventions and discoveries after his time.

Jules Gabriel Verne, known in Spanish-speaking countries as Jules Verne, was a French writer, poet, and playwright famous for his adventure novels and for his profound influence on the literary genre of science fiction.

Pierre-Jules Hetzel resulted in the creation of Extraordinary Voyages, a popular series of scrupulously documented and visionary adventure novels including the famous Five Weeks in a Balloon (1863), Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), De Earth to the Moon (1865), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), Around the World in Eighty Days (1872), and The Mysterious Island (1874).

Jules Verne is one of the most important writers in France and throughout Europe thanks to the evident influence of his books on avant-garde literature and surrealism, and since 1979 he is the second most translated author in the world, after Agatha Christie.

He is considered, along with H. G. Wells, the "father of science fiction." He was awarded the Legion of Honor for his contributions to education and science.
