Charles Perrault - French poet and critic of the Classical period, a member of the French Academy from 1671, now known mainly as the author of "Tales of Mother Goose."

In 1697 he published the book "Tales of Mother Goose, or stories and tales of bygone days with the teachings." The collection contains 9 stories representing a literary adaptations of folk tales (believed to be heard from the nurse's son Perrault) - except one ( "Rica-tuft"), composed by Perrault. This book is widely glorified Perrault outside the literary circle. In fact, Perrault introduced folk tale in the genre of "high" literature.

"Tales" contributed to the democratization of literature and influenced the development of world fairy tradition (brothers B. and J. Grimm, L. Teak, Hans Andersen). In Russian fairy tales Perrault first came to Moscow in 1768 under the title "Tales of the sorceress with morals." In Perrault's fairy tales stories created the opera "Cinderella" George.
