Robert Nesta Marley, better known as Bob Marley [1] (Nine Mile, February 6, 1945 - Miami, May 11, 1981), was a Jamaican singer, guitarist and composer, the best known reggae musician of all time , famous for popularizing the genre. Marley has sold more than 75 million records. [2]

Dedicated to protesting social problems, he led, through his music, the Rastafarian movement and its ideas of peace, brotherhood, social equality, environmental preservation, liberation, resistance, freedom and universal love for the world. Marley's music was strongly influenced by the social and political issues of his homeland, making him considered the voice of the black, poor and oppressed people of Jamaica. Africa and its problems such as misery, wars and European domination were also the subject of his music, as it is the sacred land of the Rastafarian movement.

The Legend collection, released three years after his death and which brings together some songs from the artist's albums, is the best-selling reggae album in history. Bob was married to Rita Marley (from 1966 to death), one of the I Threes, who started to sing with the Wailers after they achieved international success. She was the mother of four of her twelve children (two of them adopted), the renowned Ziggy and Stephen Marley (pronounced Stivân), who continue her father's musical legacy in the band Melody Makers. Others of his sons, Ky-Mani Marley, Julian Marley and Damian Marley (aka Jr. Gong) also followed a musical career. He was elected by Rolling Stone magazine as the 11th greatest artist in music of all time. [3]
