THE INVENTORY OF SYMPTOMS SCL-90-R by L. Derogatis

This inventory has been developed to evaluate patterns of symptoms present in individuals and can be used both in community tasks and in clinical diagnosis.

1) Somatizations (SOM)
2) Obsessions and compulsions (OBS)
3) Interpersonal sensitivity (SI)
4) Depression (DEP)
5) Anxiety (ANS)
6) Hostility (HOS)
7) Phobic Anxiety (FOB)
8) Paranoid Ideation (PAR)
9) Psychoticism (PSIC).

1) Global severity index (IGS)
2) Upset positive index (PSDI)
3) Total positive symptoms (TP)

THE NINE DIMENSIONS OF SYMPTOMS.

These dimensions were defined based on clinical, rational and empirical criteria.

SUBMISSIONS
Evaluate the presence of discomforts that the person perceives related to different bodily dysfunctions (cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory).

OBSESSIONS AND COMPULSIONS
It includes symptoms that are identified with the clinical syndrome of the same name: Thoughts, actions and impulses that are experienced as impossible to avoid or unwanted.

INTERPERSONAL SENSITIVITY
It focuses on detecting the presence of feelings of inferiority and inadequacy, especially when the person is compared to their peers

DEPRESSION
The items that make up this subscale represent a representative sample of the main clinical manifestations of a depressive disorder: dysphoric mood, lack of motivation, low vital energy, feelings of hopelessness, suicidal ideation.

ANXIETY
Evaluate the presence of general signs of anxiety such as nervousness, tension, panic attacks, fears.

HOSTILITY
This dimension refers to thoughts, feelings and actions characteristic of the presence of negative feelings of anger.

PHOTO ANXIETY
This discomfort refers to a persistent fear response (to specific people, places, objects, situations) that is in itself irrational and disproportionate in relation to the stimulus that causes it.

PARANOID IDEATION
Evaluates paranoid behaviors primarily as thought disorders: projective thinking, suspicion, fear of loss of autonomy.

PSYCHOTICISM
This dimension has been built with the intention that the construct represents as a continuous dimension of human experience. It includes symptoms related to states of dislocation, schizoid lifestyle, hallucinations and thought control.

ADDITIONAL ITEMS.
The SCL-90-R includes seven items that are not incorporated into the nine dimensions already mentioned but have clinical relevance:

19: Little appetite
44: Trouble sleeping
59: Thoughts about death or dying
60: overeating
64: Waking up very early.
66: Restless sleep.
89: Feelings of guilt.

GLOBAL INDICES.
1) Global Severity Index: it is a very good indicator of the current level of delmalestar severity. It combines the number of symptoms recognized as present with the intensity of perceived discomfort. It is calculated by adding the scores obtained in the nine dimensions of symptoms and in the additional items, and dividing that number by the total
of answers given (90 if answered all)

2) Total positive symptoms (STP): It is estimated by counting the total items that have a positive response (greater than zero). In subjects of the general population, gross scores equal to or less than 3 in men and equal to or less than 4 in women are considered as indicators of a conscious attempt to be better than they really are.

3) Positive Discomfort Index (PSDI): intends to evaluate the response style indicating whether the person tends to exaggerate or minimize the discomforts that afflict him.

It is calculated by dividing the total sum of the answers given to the items by the value obtained in Total Positive Symptoms. (STP)
