The novel presents ten stories for generations of a family inhabited by an Egyptian neighborhood that is not specific in time or place (it is believed to be in Al-Hussein at the beginning of the Alawite family period in Egypt). Al-Harafish was and still is a wonderful article for the Egyptian cinema and television, as it was represented in more than one movie, including the Al-Harafish and the Chaser, and the queen, the hunger, the berries and the Nabot witnessed the series Al-Harafish in its three parts. The novel talks about the philosophy of government and the succession of rulers and the role of peoples. Nor did the Harafish novel not far from existentialism, chosen by Naguib Mahfouz in many of his novels despite its social nature (one of the characters seeks immortality after conquering the sudden death of her .... and other behaviors in the same direction).
