Ponni is a famous Tamil historical novel by Selvan Amarar Kalki (1899-1954). AD This historical novel is based on the Chola Empire dating back to the year 1000.

Bonnie Selvan revolves around the historical characters who lived in the time period.

Vijayalaya Chola (847 - 871 AD) was the proud founder of the Chola rule of the Cholas, who overtook the Pallavas and Pandyas. His son Aditi Chola expanded the Chola empire created by Vijayalaya Chola by conquering the Pallavas and the Kongu country. After his successor, the son of Adi Chola I, Parantaka Chola I (907 - 955 AD) was a conqueror of the Eelam and Pandyan kingdoms.

The descriptions of the conquest of the Chola I and the enlarged Chola empire before his death are clearly found in the inscriptions. At the end of the reign of Prabhakaran I, the Chola prince Rajadithyan died in the battle with the Rashtrakutas led by Lord Krishna III. Due to this the northern boundary of the Chola kingdom stood at the level of Thanjavur and Tiruchirappalli.

The later Chola kings of this period were Kandaradithar, Aranjaya Chola II, Paranatha Chola II, Aditya Karikalan and Maduranthaka Chola. Only the history of Madurantha Chola, the pious Chola, is available. It seems likely that the Karikalan Rashtrakutas had recaptured the throat region that had been conquered by the late Paranthan I. After the death of Parantaka II or the death of the reigning Karikalan, there was confusion in choosing the next king of the Chola country. The site of the slaughter at Adigar Karikalan Kadambur is now known as Melakadampur. Near Kattumannarkoil

“Adityan disappeared from the desire to go to heaven (disappeared). Arunoghli says he refused to be king, let him be king.

It was during this period that Kalki chose his Bonnie Selves as the epitome of historical fiction. Ponni Selvan is one of the titles given to Rajaraja Chola. They chose Vanni Devan, the hero of the Ponni Selvan historical novel, as the hero of the historical novel; Inscription on Vandiyattevan is available in the Tanjore temple. It is inscribed that Raja Raja Chola's mother and the wife of the mighty Vandiyathevar, Alwar was a parasite. Kalki also added that K.A. Neelakanta Shastri's Cholas book and T.V. He also wrote Ponni's Selvam, centering on the later Chola history of Sadasiva Bandara. It contains five lines about Vandiyavane in the Chola history. In keeping with this, Kalki placed the hero of Ponni's cell.
