Shambhala is a mythical country located somewhere in Tibet. Judging by the ancient Tibetan maps that Soviet scientists Kuznetsov and Gumilyov tried to interpret, such a country really existed. But is it really so? What is known about this country today?
At first, in the Mahabharata, an ancient Indian epic legend, in chapter 188, "Tales of the Conversations of Markandei," only the village of Sambhala is mentioned.
"The hour will strike, and a twice-born by the name of Kalki Vishnuyasas will appear, endowed with great power, intelligence and power. He will come into the world in a worthy Brahmin family in the village of Sambhala and with the strength of mind will revive weapons and all kinds of vehicles, military clothing, armor and armor. This king, conquering the dharma, will take supreme power and bring peace to the troubled world. A brilliant brahmana, high in thoughts, having appeared (to the world), will put an end to destruction ... "
Subsequently, this prophetic narrative of the sage Markandeya is supplemented and adapted in relation to Buddhist philosophy by some Buddhist schools. Here Sambhala is already referred to as Shambhala. And this is not just a village, but a wonderful country ruled by King Suchandra. The location of Shambhala is being transferred from India to Tibet. Now Sambhala (Shambhala) is located in the region where ancient Vedic traditions are observed and the righteous society is led by the Brahman priests.
According to another legend, Shambhala was a kingdom in Central Asia. Her king Suchandra traveled to South India to gain knowledge. After the Muslim invasion of Central Asia in the 9th century, the kingdom of Shambhala became invisible to human eyes, and only those who are pure in heart can find their way to it.
It is further stated that under the 25th king of Shambhala, Kulik Rudra-chakrin (the Tibetan name is Rigden Japo) there will be a great battle between the forces of good (the army of Shambhala) and the forces of evil. Moreover, this battle symbolically means the victory of wisdom over ignorance, selflessness over egoism, etc.
After the victory of King Shambhala, a new era of spiritual, moral and cultural dawn will come, which will be marked by the appearance of the Fifth Buddha - Maitreya. The kings of Shambhala, who ruled and governed in accordance with the teachings of the Buddha Shakyamuni, are called to preserve Shambhala until the great battle of its forces with hordes of evil.
How to find this country has been repeatedly described. The most recognized work of this nature, entitled "The Way to Shambhala" (or in Tibetan "Shambhalai Lamyig") was written in 1775 by the Panchen Lama III of Tibet, Lobsang Palden Yeshe.
He was born in 1737. At the age of four, he was recognized as a tulku, i.e., a reborn Panchen Lama and the incarnation of Buddha Amitabha. The child was settled in the permanent residence of the Panchen Lamas, in the Tashilunpo monastery, where he surprised everyone with his extraordinary abilities, an early inclination for mysticism and cunning spiritual pursuits, an attraction to history, poetry, the art of aphorism.
Everyone spoke of the young Panchen Lama as an outstanding charismatic personality. In particular, the Englishman George Bogle, the first to visit Tibet, left in his diaries a portrait of this man as a very pleasant person.
Interestingly, this saint died very prosaically. Lobsang Palden Yeshe died of smallpox in 1780 during his missionary trip to Beijing. At the same time, many members of his large retinue, consisting of 500 monks, 100 dignitaries, 800 servants, as well as several acharyas (doctors of philosophical sciences) from India, also died.
