It is important to read before downloading and using the app.

The Calculus-IDS app is a tool that allows you to calculate the Sustainable Development Index (IDS) for areas (not country). More than 40 indicators are taken into account, to which are added about 100 sub-indicators that have weight in the development of an area. And each indicator and sub-indicator have an importance within the result that comes out at the end.
An excel template called STANDLEY SCALE FOR IDS CALCULATION was created for the app. She is the basis of the calculations that were later passed to the app.

For this, the Weighted Average formula is used so that each sub and indicator have a percentage weight. When one of them has a negative effect, its percentage is negative, which automatically reduces the Final Index: IDS.

Many of these indicators are taken from studies that have been carried out by international organizations such as the UN, UNDP and others on the calculation of the Sustainable Development Index. Also, this new method was created after analyzing many others that have many errata that do not allow the calculated IDS to really reflect the level of sustainable development of an area.

To get to the IDS, just answer each sub-indicator by 1 or 0. These two mean respectively: Yes or No.

All the Sub-indicators are a series of affirmations (some positive and others negative) to which you must answer that they do or do not exist. For example, a positive statement could be: there is a school in the area; if you put a 1, it is a YES or 0 is a NO. Its importance in percentage can be 10%. So multiply 1 or 0 by this percentage and so on with all the other sub-indicators. The numerization of the result is to allow the indicators, sub-indicators and dimensions to be measurable, hence the use of the weighted average.

Also each Indicator has a percentage importance as well as each dimension: Environmental, Economic, Political and Social.

The weighted average of all gives the Sustainable Development Index with a number between 0 and 1.

Depending on the result, a list of action suggestions may appear to either solve or mitigate a problem. It is wise to tell them that this list of suggestions may only be indicative in certain cases.

The result may not be according to reality if the answers are subjective. Therefore, it takes a lot of seriousness when walking around using the App. 8 minutes is the average time used to enter the data until the IDS comes out.

Then, the results can be saved in a PDF that is downloaded as a report. The app is translated into English if the user's cell phone is in this language.

It is free, offline and ad-free access.
The use of the app can reduce the time of these measurements, save paper use and reduce tree felling, therefore less contamination by the paper industries, reduce measurement costs, among others.

OFFICIAL use of the app is recommended, in the sense that the IDS of an area can be important for development decision-making, so only official entities should use it. Do not rule out that anyone uses it, but that it is in a responsible way.

The IDS of the App is not 100% a true result of reality, but it can be indicative and help make good decisions.

This app is the product of a Standley Moise Student Graduation Project, Candidate for a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at the EARTH University of Costa Rica. He is advised by M.Sc Victor Hugo Morales, Professor of Forestry and Agroforestry and Use of drones in Agriculture at EARTH itself.

The app is a new creation and innovative style in this area.

It is very helpful if you comment and rate the app to improve the tool.

Thank you all for downloading it!
