The 'Unification Act on Full Age' refers to an amendment scheduled to go into effect on June 28th, which stipulates that from now on, age for administrative and civil purposes will be counted as full age, except in cases where a separate method of counting age is provided.

To calculate full age, starting from this year's birthday, the age is calculated by subtracting the year of birth from this year. For example, a person born in 1993 will turn 30 by subtracting the year of birth from 2023. If your birthday hasn't passed, you'll be 29 years old minus one year.

In particular, as the principles of calculating and displaying full age are specified in the Basic Administrative Act and the Civil Act starting this year, it becomes clear that the age used in contracts, laws, ordinances, etc. will be regarded as full age unless there are special provisions.

Meanwhile, there are inquiries as to whether the pension benefit period or retirement age will change due to this age unification law, but in a word, ‘nothing will change’.

This is because even before the enforcement of the Uniform Age Act, age under the law was calculated as full age unless there were special provisions, so the enforcement of the Uniform Age Act does not change the pension benefit period or retirement age.
