Dunking Dyslexia helps with reading, writing, spelling, pronunciation, and speech for
those with learning challenges, on the autism spectrum, in speech classes and in ELD
classes. It’s combining music with spelling, music played in the left ear and spelling in
the right ear. The spelling words progress in difficulty per lesson starting with 3 letter
words, to 4 letter words. Then advancing to 2 syllable words and then and two words
that typically go together. Sentences follow with progression of difficulty as well
corresponding to phonics lessons in the Step By Step Reading program.
This is a multi sensory approach to teaching and learning phonics using music and is
based on neuroscience of the relationship of music to learning. The app is an optional
component to the Step By Step Reading program created by Dr. Marianne Cintron. You
may contact Dr. Cintron on her website: https://www.stepbystepdyslexiasolutions.com.
This app requires internet connection and is divided into three subgroups. It is designed
for families. Parents download the app for 7 years or older. Music is always played in
the LEFT ear and spelling exercises (if desired) in the RIGHT ear. The music itself is
great for listening and impacts the brain in beneficial ways.
For each button, students tap the button to begin the exercise, which can be
paused, rewound, or fast forwarded as the student desires using the back, pause,
and forward arrows < = >.
Subgroup 1a: There are two basic exercises at the top, that when tapped, will begin.
Exercise 1 contains music only, to be played in the LEFT ear via ear pod, allowing the
student to listen while focusing on reading the phonics or completing workbook pages.
Exercise 2 is letter names and sound for students at any age who need that support.
Subgroup 2: There are 28 spelling exercises that correspond to the Step By Step
Reading program. Students listen with ear pods so that music is played in the LEFT ear
while the spelling exercises are listened to in the RIGHT ear.
Subgroup 3: There are 8 spelling sentence groups that correspond to the Step-By Step
Reading program. Students listen with ear pods so that music is played in the LEFT ear
while the spelling exercises are listened to in the RIGHT ear.
