Kitab al-Futuhat al-Makkiyyah was compiled in Mecca in 598 H / 1202 AD. According to his confession, this book was dictated by God through angels who conveyed inspiration. Meanwhile, the book Fushush al-Hikam - even though it is relatively short - is Ibn 'Arabi's most widely read and given sharah (explanation), because it is the most difficult to understand.
