TimeOut will help you track your days physically outside of and in Canada. Passports are rarely stamped anymore and most people use electronic boarding passes making it difficult to keep track of days spent away from Canada. Every time you leave Canada, TimeOut will ask you to log the details of your trip. Alternatively, log your planned trips in advance of travel and TimeOut will confirm your travel plans prior to your departure. TimeOut will also notify you when you are getting close to major milestones. All data is saved securely on your phone and you can export the data to your email address or to your accountant or legal service provider (paid feature).
● Use TimeOut to track your eligibility towards permanent residence status. Becoming a permanent resident may require you to be physically present in Canada employed by a Canadian company for a period of time. If you travel outside of Canada on business for that Canadian company, your time away may not count towards time required to qualify for permanent residence. TimeOut will help you know when you qualify.
● Use TimeOut to manage your immigration status in Canada. Be sure to apply for an extension of your temporary status before it expires, by having TimeOut send you a reminder in advance of the expiry date.
● Protect your permanent residence status by ensuring you meet the residency requirement for spending days physically in Canada every five years. There are some exceptions to this residency rule and TimeOut will help you to take advantage of applicable exceptions. TimeOut will also send you a reminder in advance of your permanent resident card expiring.
● Track your time physically in Canada towards eligibility for Canadian citizenship. To become a citizen of Canada, you must spend a certain number of days physically in Canada out of the last five years. TimeOut will let you know when you are close to being eligible to apply.
● If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident escaping cold Canadian winters, use TimeOut to ensure that your health insurance does not lapse while you are away. Long absences from Canada may result in you having to requalify by accumulating new days of physical residence in Canada. TimeOut will send you a notification in advance of your being off-side provincial health insurance requirements.
● Foreign nationals working in Canada for more than 183 days may trigger a tax obligation. TimeOut will help manage and track days relevant for tax purposes.
