Spend one day with Georgivs Baestianvs, a retired Roman soldier, who will take you on a tour of ancient Roman Dacia’s provincial capital – Colonia Ulpia Traiana Augusta Dacica Sarmizegetusa. The long city name refers to the fact that it was established as a Colony of Trajan, son of (Marcus) Ulpius, a Roman emperor with the title of Augustus in the province of Dacia.

Our friend Georgivs Baestianvs is visiting the city in order to pay his tax on an inheritance (vicesima hereditatium). Georgivs lives on a farm outside of Sarmizegetusa and does not come to the city very often. For this reason, visiting Sarmizegetusa is an important event in his every-day life and he always tries to get as much as possible from his visit – as any of us living in a smaller place near a large city would do.

Therefore, apart from visiting the DOMUS PROCURATORIS and paying his due tax, he will also visit:

The FOUNTAINS AT THE FORUM ENTRANCE, to drink cool spring water; the STATUES OFROMAN EMPERORS LINING THE FORUM SQUARE, to pay his respects and express loyalty to the leaders of the Empire; and THE AMPHITHEATRE, where he will enjoy the spectacle of gladiatorial combat.

Use this unique opportunity to follow Georgivs around the city in order to better understand how the foundations and key buildings of the ancient Roman city blend together and learn more about the life of common people as once was. It may surprise you to find just how modern and contemporary it appears.

At the end, you can take photos using this application’s filters and create lasting memories of your visit.

See you soon at Sarmizegetusa, part of the Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route.
