Gibre Himamat is an Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo book that is read in Holy week, the last week of Lent. The book contains readings of Palm Sunday, Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday (Spy Wednesday), Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday), Good Friday (Holy Friday), Holy Saturday and Easter. The book contains readings from Holy Bible, Orthodox Canonical books, Synaxarium, Miracles of Jesus Christ, Miracles of Saint Mary, Prophecies, Prayer Books, Haymanote Abew, Prayer of Covenant, Gedles and more Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo church books.

The secret purpose of this book is to remind us that the Lord has given us the pain, the death, the eternal freedom and glory in His resurrection, and that He is the God of life without pain and death, read and rehearsed every day in this holy week


Accordingly, the general pattern of the prayer and service of the Gibre Himamat is contained in this book, and it is our sincere hope that the priests and parishioners will be able to hold the book and follow it.

መጽሐፈ ግብረ ሕማማት በኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን የጌታችንነ የመድኃኒታችን ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ መከራ መስቀል የሚዘከርበትና በሰሙነ ሕማማት የሚነበብ ታላቅ መጽሐፍ ነው ። መጽሐፉ ከመጽሐፍ ቅዱስ ፣ ከሥርዓት መጻሕፍት ፣ ከትንቢት ፣ ከድርሳናት ፣ ከተአምራት ፣ ከመዝሙራት ፣ ከተግሣጻት ፣ ከሃይማኖተ አበው ፣ ከኪዳን መጽሐፍ፣ ከመጽሐፈ ስንክሳርና ከአበው መጻሕፍት የተውጣጡ ትምህርቶችንና የጸሎት ክፍሎችን ከሆሣዕና ዋዜማ እስከ ትንሣኤ ባሉት ስምንት ቀናንት በሰዓታት ተከፋፍሎ የተዘጋጀ መጽሐፍ ነው ።

የመሠረቱና ታሪካዊ አመጣጡም ከአባቶቻችን ቅዱሳን ሐዋርያት ተያይዞ የመጣ ነው። ይኸውም ጌታችን ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ከሙታን ተለይቶ ተነሥቶ ለሐዋርያት እየተገለጸ እስከ አርባ ቀን ድረስ መጽሐፈ ኪዳንንና ሥርዓተ ቤተ ክርስቲያንን ሲያስተምራቸው ቈይቶ። በአርባ ቀኑም ሐዋርያትን በአንብሮተ እድ ሹሟቸውና ባርኳቸው አርጓል። (ማር ፲፮ ፲ህ። ሉቃ ፳፬፤ ፶፩። የሐዋ ሥራ ፩-፱ )

ከዚህም በኋላ ሐዋርያት በኢየሩሳሌም ካሉ ምዕመናን ጋር ጾም መጾምንና ትንሣኤውን ማክበር ጀመሩ። በዚህ ጊዜ በጽርሐ ጽዮን ተሰብስበው በደነገጉት የቤተ ክርስቲያን ሥርዓት ፥ ስለ ሰሙነ ሕማማት «ወአንትሙሰ ተዐቅቡ ወግበሩ ተዝካረ ሕማማቲሁእናንተ ግን ጠብቃችሁ የመከራ መስቀሉ መታሰቢያ የሆነውን ሕማማቱን አድርጉ አክብሩ» ሲሉ አዝዘዋል። (ትእዛዝ ፴፩)

ሆኖም ሐዋርያት ለስብከተ ወንጌል ይፋጠኑ ነበረና እንደ ዛሬው ሁሉ ጊዜውን አልወሰኑትም ነበር። ከሐዋርያት ቀጥለው የተነሱ ሊቃውንትም ቢሆኑ እንደዚሁ በዐተ ጾምን ከጥር ፲፩ ቀን እስከ የካቲት ፳፩ ቀን ከጾመ። በኋላ ሰሙነ ሕማማትን ደግሞ ከዐቢይ ጾም ለይተው ከመጋቢት ፳፪ እስከ መጋቢት ፳፰ ቀን በመጾም መጋቢት ፳፱ ቀን ትንሣኤውን ያከብሩ ነበር። ይህ ሥርዓት ሲያያዝ እስከ ድሜጥሮስ ዘመን ደረሰ።


ከ፩፻፹፰ እስከ ፪፻፴ ዓ.ም የነበረው ሊቀ ጳጳስ ድሜጥሮስ በአዘጋጀው የጊዜ መቁጠሪያ (ባሕረ ሐሣብ) ሰሙነ ሕማማት ከዐቢይ ጾም ቀጥታ እንዲሆን ተወስኖአል። ቤተ ክርስቲያንም በቀመረ ድሜጥሮስ ዓመታትን በንዑስ፤ በማዕከላዊና በዐቢይ ቀመር እየቀመረች አጽዋማት የሚገቡበትንና በዓላት የሚውሉበትን ጊዜ ለምዕመናን ታሳውቃለች።

ስለሆነም የሰሙነ ሕማማት ሥርዓተ ጸሎትና አገልግሎት ሁኔታ ከቤተ ክርስቲያናችን ሥርዓተ አምልኮት ጋር የተያያዘ ቢሆንም አሁን ያለውን ሥርዓት የያዘ ግብረ ሕማማት፤ የተሰኘው መጽሐፍ ተዘጋጅቶ በሥራ ላይ የዋለው ከጌታ ልደት በኋላ በ፲፬ኛው ምዕት ዓመት ነው።

ከ፩ሺ፫፻፵ እስከ ፩ሺ፫፻፹ ዓ.ም የነበሩት ብፁዕ አቡነ ሰላማ ብርሃነ ዐዜብ ከዐረብኛ ወደ ግእዝ እንደተረጎሙት ቀደም ሲል በግእዝ ብቻ ታትሞ በነበረው የግብረ ሕማማት መጽሐፍ ውስጥ ተገልጦአል።

የመጽሐፉ ስያሜም ከጥንተ ስሙ ጀምሮ ግብረ ሕማማት እንደሚባል በመጽሓፉ ውስጥ በብዙ ክፍል ተጠቅሶ ይገኛል። ለዚሁም በቂ የሆነ ምሥጢራዊ ምክንያት እንዳለው ይታመናል።

ምሥጢራዊ ዓላማውም ጌታ በሕማሙ ሕማማችንን፤ በሞቱ ሞታችንን፤ በትንሣኤው ዘለዓማዊ ነፃነትንና ክብርን ያጐናጸፈን መሆኑን ከማስገንዘቡም በላይ በባሕርዩ መከራና ሞት የሌለበት ሕያወ ባሕርይ አምላክ መሆኑ በሰሙነ ሕማማት በየአንዳንዱ ቀን ይነበባል ይተረካልም።


በዚህ መሠረት የሰሙነ ሕማማት ጸሎትና አገልግሎት ጠቅላላ ሥርዓት በዚህ መጽሓፈ ግብረ ሕማማት በየክፍሉ ተጽፎ ስለሚገኝ ካህናትም ምዕመናንም መጽሐፉን በመያዝ ሥርዓቱን ለመከታተል ያመቻል የሚል ጽኑእ ተስፋ አለን።
