Chapada das Mesas
The Chapada das Mesas National Park protects 160,046 hectares of Cerrado in Carolina counties, Riachão, Strait and Empress in the center-south of Maranhão.
Created in 2005, the Chapada das Mesas National Park is one of the newest national parks in Brazil. buritizais forests, wildernesses, red plateaus of relief, make up a dazzling array of curious rock formations, canyons, caves and waterfalls. There are countless surprises and adventures that a visit to this park can reveal.

His name came because of their plateaus, which actually resemble the shape of stone tables. This was due to the sandstone rock walls formed millions of years ago.

This 160 hectares ecological sanctuary brings countless natural spectacles, single copies of the Brazilian Cerrado. But undoubtedly the waterfalls and natural pools of crystalline water with mild temperatures, amid the huge rock walls, are largely responsible for the charm that surrounds the park.

The waterfalls of Sao Romao, in Carolina and Cachoeira da Prata, where you can practice abseiling and canyoning are the most stand out for their grandeur, but other attractions like trekking up the hill of the figures, with inscriptions and nature trails as leading to the Hat Morro leave nothing to be desired in the adventure aspect.

The surrounding park offers several must-see attractions. Are trails leading to amazing waterfalls and lookouts, beaches and river tours and adventure. The scenarios are stunning, great for nature photos, hiking and observation of rare birds, as the Cerrado vegetation attracts many birds in the area, forming a true nursery of birds.
