Akathist, Akathist Old Believers (. Greek Ο Ακάθιστος Ύμνος, also nesedalen, nesedalnaya song, that is, "a song that is sung, without sitting down, standing up") - a genre Orthodox church hymnography akin Kondakov in the original meaning of the term.
Initially and for a long time, the term was applied only to the text, referred to in common parlance as the Russian Akathist to the Blessed Virgin or the Great akathist who gave a formal scheme to all the later akathists written in imitation of him.
It attributed to various authors, including Roman a Melodist that, however, has no reliable confirmation.
It appeared likely to VI (according to some assumptions, between 3rd and 4th Ecumenical Council); certainly not later than 626 years, when for him again was composed intonation Thee the Champion Leader - the so-called armhole (Greek προοίμιον; 1st kontakion in the Russian tradition.), or Kukula (Greek κουκούλιον - hood.).
Akafist armhole is not associated with the content and the remainder of Akafist metric has a different structure; it certainly represents a later addition to text. Its appearance is usually associated with the siege of Constantinople in the summer of 626, the Avars and Slavs; represents the winning song of thanksgiving, addressed to the Mother of God on behalf of "Her Castle", that is, Constantinople, getting rid of the "evil". In today's (at least, from the XV century) Church Slavonic translation of the word "hail Your" replaced by "Rabbi Toi".

After Kukuliev [1] 12 large verses (ICOS) and 12 verses the smaller (kondaks). The Great akathist ICOS able to terminate refrain Χαῖρε, Νύμφη ἀνύμφευτε (Rejoice, Bride Nenevestnaya!); and kontakia - Alleluia refrain (the same refrain is characteristic of the overwhelming majority of the later akathists).
Akathist characteristic feature - the so-called. hayretizmy - from the Greek Χαῖρε (. tserk.-Slavic Rejoice; in modern Greek pronunciation - here), which is a form of greeting in Greek. Hayretizmy follow the introductory part of Icosa and constitute the bulk of the text. Each ICOS - 12 hayretizmov united in the Greek izosillabizmom pairs and an identity of a metric pattern.
The liturgical use of [edit | edit wiki text]
Charter speaks only about the Great canticle, which is read at the morning celebration Praise of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Saturday 5th week of Lent).
Hymns can also be read as a part of the prayer service and some other religious services.
Akathist to the Blessed Virgin Mary in Slavic manuscripts and early printed tradition can be placed in different types of liturgical books: the Lenten Triodion (the vast majority of cases), the Psalms follow Horologion, kondakar, Akafistnike (XV century), Bogorodichnike (from the beginning of the XIV century). Initially with Virgin Akathist Slavs met, obviously, as a part of the Lenten Triodion, a translation of which, by indirect evidence of the life of St. Clement of Ohrid, written by Theophylact, Archbishop of Ohrid (Bulgarian), was completed no later than 916 years.
