The Ta'lîm al-Muta'allim Tharîq at-Ta'allum book is one of the books that collects study guides. The compiler's full name is Burhânuddîn Ibrâhim al-Zarnûji al-Hanafi. The word al-Zarnûj is attributed to one of the famous cities near the Oxus river, Turkey. From his pension to al-Hanafi at the end of his name, it can be seen that he was a Hanafi school. Regarding the year of his birth the scholars still have different opinions, as well as the year of his death. Some say that Imam al-Zarnûji died in 591 AH, but there are also those who mention he died in 640 AH (Imam al-Zarnûji, Ta'lîm al-Muta'allim Tharîq at-Ta'allum, Beirut: al-Maktab al-Islami, first printing, 1981, page 18). Imam al-Zarnûji studied from several great scholars of his time, including Ruknul Islam Muhammad bin Abi Bakr (573 AH), Hammad bin Ibrahim, Fakhruddin al-Kâsyâni, Fakhruddin Qâdhi Khan al-Awz Jundi, and Ruknuddin al-Farghâni. The scholars are both fiqh and literary experts. Perhaps this is the factor that led to the large amount of advice quoted by Imam al-Zarnûji from the Hanafiyah scholars, and the large number of verses in this book.

Imam al-Zarnuji explained the method of learning in his book. There are 13 chapters mentioned by him in Ta'lîm al-Muta'allim, namely:

1. Explaining the nature of knowledge, law seeks knowledge and its virtues.
2. Intention in seeking knowledge.
3. How to choose knowledge, teachers, friends and persistence.
4. How to respect knowledge and teachers.
5. Seriousness in seeking knowledge, beristiqomah and lofty ideals.
6. Size and order.
7. Tawakal.
8. Time to study science.
9. Love one another and advise one another.
10. Looking for additional knowledge.
11. Be wara 'when studying.
12. Things that can strengthen memorization and weaken it.
13. Things that can facilitate the arrival of rizki, things that hinder the arrival of rizki, things that can prolong and reduce life.
