Tuljapur Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Bhavani (Parvati aspect of Durga). It is located in Tuljapur in the Osmanabad district of Maharashtra and is considered to be one of the 51 Shakti Pithas. It is located 45 km from the town of Solapur. The temple was built in c. 12th century AD. Bhavani (also known as Tulaja, Turaja, Tvarita, Ambā and Jagadambā) is the avatar of Parvati, the Hindu goddess. It is a form of Durga worshipped in Maharashtra, and also of Rajputs of North Gujarat, Northern Karnataka, Western Rajasthan, and ******. Bhavani translates as the "giver of life," meaning the power of nature or the source of creative energy.

Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha kingdom, has always visited this temple to seek his blessings. The legend has to be credited with saying that the Goddess had given him a sword called 'Bhavani Kadga' by which Shivaji had been successful in his expeditions. The history of the temple dates back to the days of 'Skanda Purana,' as mentioned in the Holy Scripture. According to the epic story, there was a sage "Kardam" and his consort "Anubhuthi" with an infant in this area. After his death, his wife "Anubhuthi" performed penance for the goddess Parvati in the name of Bhavani on the banks of the river "Mandakini" to look after her child. There was a demon (Rakshasa) named "Kukur" who tortured her.
