Shiv Tandav Stotram is a hymn, mainly devoted to lord Shiva that tells about the power and beauty of Lord Shiva. Shiva Stotram is one of the very religious and holy hymns for Hindus and hence every Lord Shiv devotee read this shiv tandav stotram very carefully. In this religious post, today we are going to share Shiv Tandav Stotram lyrics both in sanskrit and Hindi.
Talking about Shiv Tandav Stotra then it was written by ”Ravana” one of the great devotees of Lord Shiva and the king of Lanka. The Shiv Tandav is traditionally attributed to Ravana who was actually a rakshasa (demon ) king of Lanka but a great devotee of Shiva.
Both the ninth and tenth quatrains of this Shiv Tandav song close with arrangements of Shiva’s epithets as destroyer, even the destroyer of death itself. Similar sounding word usage and likeness in sound make bothering floods of reverberating magnificence in this case of Hindu devotional poetry.
In the last quatrain of the shiv tandav stotram, in the wake of feeling burnt out on rampaging over the Earth, Ravana asks, “When will I be happy?” Because of the force of his supplications to God and self-denying contemplation, of which this hymn was a case, Ravana got from Shiva powers and a celestial sword.
Shiv Tandav Stotram – Facts:
According to Hindu traditional belief that Lord Shiva is the ruler of all dancers. He was a specialist in the thandava style of moving. This is an overwhelming masculine style of moving. This shiv tandav stotra is about him while in the demonstration of moving. Similar sounding word usage and likeness in sound make annoying floods of reverberating magnificence in this incredible stotra.
This stotra which is so superb was created by none other than Ravana, the evil presence ruler, who ruled over Sri Lanka, who was one of the great devotees of Lord Shiva. Once the glad Ravana vanquished the whole India and drew nearer Mount Kailas on top of which Lord Shiva lives with his consort Goddess Parvathi.
Ravana called Lord Shiva to descend. When he didn’t, he evacuated the mountain with his twenty hands. This made Goddess Parvathi unsteady. At that point Lord Shiva pushed down the mountain with his thumb. Ravana was smashed by the heaviness of the mountain. There he adulated Lord Shiva by singing the Sama Veda and this extraordinary stotra made by him. Ruler Shiva was pleased andpardoned him.
A compelling and complex personality, Ravana is for many Hindus a legendary hero, a scholar of immense intelligence and the devoted husband of one of traditional five perfect women, Mandodari. Ravana married Maya's daughter, Mandodari, who was a very beautiful & righteous wife. He had a son by her, named Meghanaada (which means the 'sound of the clouds' or the 'sound of thunder'). Meghanaada defeated Indra, the king of Demigods, and earned the title of 'Indrajit'. Ravana's great-grandfather was Brahma (God of Ultimate Knowledge). He had advanced knowledge of mathematics, science and Ayurveda.
He was obsessed with his powers and was egoistic, and to display and prove his powers he was about to move Mount Kailash (the abode of Shiva who was his ancestor God). He managed to lift the mountain but Shiva immediately placed it back just by pressing his toe crushing Ravana's fingers in the process. That is when Ravana sings "Shiva Tandava Stotra" and he was spared and blessed with chandrahas (moon sword by Shiva) considered one of the most powerful weapons in Hindu mythology.
He is one of the five primary forms of God in the Smarta tradition and "the Destroyer" or "the Transformer" among the Trimurti, Bramha, Vishnu, Mahesh, the Hindu Trinity of the primary aspects of the divine.
