Sericulture-An opportunity to earn year round income

Sericulture is an agro based business having great capacity for employment and rural development. India is the second largest producer of silk and is also the largest consumer of silk in the world. Mulberry Sericulture is practiced by a large number of smallholder farmers who are ready to work hard for earning year round income in many parts of India. Agro-climatic conditions of many districts of Maharashtra state are suitable for sericulture and would give high yield of silk and good income to our farmers. Climatic condition with optimum temperatures and adequate availability of mulberry leaves for feeding the Silkworm are critical for a successful silkworm rearing. We are confident that Sericulture with its potential to give better and continuous income to farmers, can become a new crop alternate for smallholder Maharashtra farmers giving them a sustainable, new cash crop option.

With our expertise and infrastructure in scaling up genetics in plants and NSSO's reputation as a high quality Silkworm Seed Producer we hope to make available the highest quality of Bivoltine Silkworm Seeds for Sericulture farmers in the state of Maharashtra immediately and through the rest of India over time. Mahyco is in the process of setting up a state of the art manufacturing facility in Jalna, Maharashtra to bring the newest Bivoltine Silkworm genetics to silk farmers in Maharashtra.

The Bivoltine DFL (Disease Free Layings) will be marketed under the brand name of "Mahy Silk" carrying our seal of trust, that farmers have come to value over the last 5 decades. All the requisite technical support required to deliver a successful silk crop will be provided along with best in class genetics to the sericulture farmers.
