STOPPED is an app that provides an easy way to record interactions with law enforcement, notify trusted contacts, and share the recording with communities. The app enables civilian monitoring of police interactions so that they can improve these relations in their community.

The app has an intuitive user interface. The landing page has 3 red buttons - the larger, center ‘Record’ button and the ‘Text My Contact’ and ‘Call my Contact’ buttons.

Tapping the center ‘Record’ button starts a video and audio recording of the interaction, while also displaying a live feed of the recording on the screen. The app is set to record using the ‘selfie’ mode so that the camera can capture the user’s interaction with law enforcement. The camera can also record in the rear camera mode when recording police interactions as a witness. The user can toggle between the two modes.

When the user stops the recording, the video is automatically saved on the phone’s camera roll. If the user is not able to stop recording in 20 minutes, the app automatically uploads the video to the ‘Community page’ and sends a text message to the user’s designated contacts, which is a useful feature

The app gives users the option to share the recording on the app’s ‘Community page’.
This page is a unique feature of the app that aims at ensuring accountability by local law enforcement and fostering community interactions. Videos uploaded on the community page are tagged with date, time and GPS coordinates providing local insights on interactions. These videos can be shared on the users’ social media (Facebook, Twitter).
