Indonesian Cooperative
Indonesian Cooperative History and Development
Cooperatives are business entities whose members are individuals or cooperative legal entities by basing their activities on the principles of cooperatives as well as as people's economic movements based on the principle of kinship.

Cooperatives are everything related to cooperative life.

Primary Cooperatives are cooperatives that are founded by and consist of individual members.

Secondary Cooperatives are cooperatives established by and as cooperative members.

The Cooperative Movement is the entire cooperative organization and cooperative activities that are integrated towards achieving the common goals of cooperatives.

History of Cooperatives in Indonesia
The Indonesian cooperative is a business entity that organizes the use and utilization of economic resources of its members. Based on the principles of cooperatives and economic principles, cooperative companies aim to improve the standard of living of members in particular and society. Thus the cooperative is a people's economic movement based on the principle of kinship.
The history of cooperatives in Indonesia began in the 20th century. Cooperative ideas were introduced by R. Aria Wiraatmadja in 1896 by establishing a Bank for Civil Servants (Hulf en Spaarkbank), which was subsequently continued by De Wolffvan Westerrode (Dutch Resident in Purwokerto). In 1908, Dr. Sutomo founded Budi Utomo, which has a role in organizing cooperatives to improve and prosper people's lives. In 1915 the Verordening op de Cooperatieve Vereeniging regulations were drawn up and in 1927 the Regeling Inlandschhe Cooperative.
In 1927 the Islamic Trade Union was formed, which aims to fight for the economic position of indigenous entrepreneurs. In 1929 the Indonesian National Party was founded which fought for the spirit of the spread of cooperatives in Indonesia. In 1942 the Japanese state occupied Indonesia, then Japan established an Indonesian cooperative with the name kumiai.
Post-independence, the Indonesian cooperative movement held the first Cooperative Congress in Tasikmalaya on 11-14 July 1947. One of the results of the congress was to establish 12 July as the Day of Indonesian Cooperatives and also establish a Center for the Organization of Cooperatives of the Republic of Indonesia (SOKRI), which was subsequently at the second Congress in 1953 in Bandung it was changed to the Indonesian Cooperative Council (DEKOPIN).

The foundation of Indonesian Cooperatives
Indonesian cooperatives, both as a people's economic movement and as a business entity, have a role to play in realizing an advanced, just and prosperous society based on Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution in the national economic order which is structured as a joint effort based on the principles of kinship and economic democracy;
Indonesian cooperatives need to further build themselves and be built to be strong and independent based on the principles of cooperatives so that they can act as pillars of the national economy;
The development of cooperatives in Indonesia is the duty and responsibility of the government and all people and the cooperative movement;
In order to make these things happen and keep in line with the development of the situation, Indonesian Cooperatives have guidelines in running their organizations, namely Law Number 25 of 1992 concerning Cooperatives in lieu of Law Number 12 of 1967 concerning the Principles of Cooperatives which were used as previous guidelines.
In the old order era, with the guided economic system, the development of Indonesian cooperatives was carried out massively and uniformly, among others, adapting the function of cooperatives to the spirit and spirit of the 1945 Constitution and the Manipol (Political Manifesto) of 1959, where Indonesian cooperatives were given a role as tools to carry out a guided economy based on socialism.
