In this post, I am going to show you how to install myIowaDOT on Windows PC by using Android App Player such as BlueStacks, LDPlayer, Nox, KOPlayer, ...

Below you will find a detailed step-by-step guide, but I want to give you a fast overview of how it works. All you need is an emulator that will emulate an Android device on your Windows PC and then you can install applications and use it - you see you're playing it on Android, but this runs not on a smartphone or tablet, it runs on a PC.

Step By Step Guide To Install myIowaDOT using BlueStacks

  1. Download and Install BlueStacks at: https://www.bluestacks.com. The installation procedure is quite simple. After successful installation, open the Bluestacks emulator. It may take some time to load the Bluestacks app initially. Once it is opened, you should be able to see the Home screen of Bluestacks.
  2. Open the APK/XAPK file: Double-click the APK/XAPK file to launch BlueStacks and install the application. If your APK/XAPK file doesn't automatically open BlueStacks, right-click on it and select Open with... Browse to the BlueStacks. You can also drag-and-drop the APK/XAPK file onto the BlueStacks home screen
  3. Once installed, click "myIowaDOT" icon on the home screen to start using, it'll work like a charm :D

[Note 2] about Bluetooth: At the moment, support for Bluetooth is not available on BlueStacks. Hence, apps that require control of Bluetooth may not work on BlueStacks.

The myIowaDOT app has been developed to act as a container for other Iowa Department of Transportation apps. It shows all available Iowa Department of Transportation apps, even those apps that are not currently installed on the device. If an app is selected that is not installed on the device, the user is taken to that app in Google Play so the app can be installed. Once apps have been installed, the myIowaDOT app can be used as a launch pad for those apps.

The list of apps available on the myIowaDOT app is built dynamically, so new apps will automatically appear in the myIowaDOT app as they are developed. Users can also create a list of favorite apps, personalized to meet their needs.

Apps that are currently available with myIowaDOT include:
Aviation - Contains an Iowa airport directory, aviation weather, an aviation calendar, and NOTAMS (Notice to Airmen)
Bike Map - An interactive bike map with bike trail navigation and driving directions
DL Docs – Helps determine which documents are needed in order to obtain an Iowa Real ID
Drive Test – A practice test to help prepare for the Iowa driver's test
ERL – The Department’s Electronic Reference Library, which contains highway & bridge construction specifications and standards
Facebook – The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Facebook page
Iowa 511 – Traveler information such as Iowa road conditions, traffic speeds, and traffic cameras
Legis – Information about the Iowa Department of Transportation by Iowa legislative district
myMVD – Use this to renew your Iowa driver’s license, change your address, or see your driving record
Twitter – The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Twitter feed
