Each player receives three cards from a subset of the deck consisting of the numbers 1 to 7, the Jack (in Spanish: Sota), in the value of 9, the Queen or the Horse (in Spanish: Caballo), in the value of 8, and the Rei (in Spanish: Rey), worth 10.

The most common form of the game is the four-player version, in which there are two teams of two players, who sit opposite each other. For six players, there are two teams of three players, with a second player on the same team.

In Truco Cego, 8s and 9s are also taken, playing with the numbers from 1 to 7, plus the Jack (in Spanish: Hombre a pie or in Spanish: Sota), the Horse (in Spanish: Caballo or in Spanish: Hombre a Caballo) and the King (in Spanish: Rey or in Spanish: Padre).

You can play with 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 people, always divided into two teams. In the 6 to 12-person modalities, the odd rounds are played in teams and the even rounds are played individually, only the players facing each other (the so-called forehead matches). In this case, the individual points count towards the team as a whole. There is still a last modality, with three people, where the players take turns, forming pairs against a single player, the carancho. In this case, the points are counted individually (but the pair wins the points together). The snail always receives the first card and an extra card. Of these, you can choose the three best and discard one; hence the game proceeds normally.

The game is played until a team finishes the game with 2 games of 12 points. There are 24 points divided into two halves, the lower half called ruins (in Spanish: malas), and the upper half called good (in Spanish: buenas). The first team that makes 12 points will zero the score and she will have a bad one (in Spanish: bags), if she can make 12 points again she wins the good ones (in Spanish: buenas) and wins the fall, otherwise the other team there will also be a bad ones (in Spanish: suitcases) and whoever wins the next one wins the fall.4
