The first Chornobyl official mobile application with AR created to the 35th anniversary of the accident. The mobile application will acquaint users with the history of the Chornobyl accident, provide information about the current status of the Exclusion Zone, will help you to prepare for a trip and even allow you to see Chornobyl from the couch.

Today Chornobyl is one of the most exciting places in the world, attracting more than 100 thousand tourists in a year 80% of whom are foreigners. Chornobyl Exclusion Zone is currently the principal historical monument, a center of scientific research, a place of inspiration for the artists. Still, even in USSR times, it was surrounded by fakes, hesitation, and manipulation.
Over time, their amount is grooving, and it’s harder to find trustworthy information. That’s why before the 35th anniversary of the Chornobyl accident, we decided to create a smooth and understandable mobile application that will collect all fact-based information in one place, provide information about the current status of the Exclusion Zone, and help you prepare for a trip and even allow you to see Chornobyl from the couch.

The application will be shared in free access in Ukrainian and English language, also it will be able to work in without internet access as a guide accompanying tourists to Chornobyl.

Among exciting features of an app which team currently develop:
- AR content with unique activations and portals to different spots in Chornobyl;
- authentic tours in exclusion zone with audio-guide from witnesses of events;
- map of radioactive pollution;
- media gallery with archive materials and exclusive content;
- the cultural legacy of Chornobyl, stories of the people, and current cultural events.

“Chornobyl tragedy is connected to each Ukrainian family, but what Ukrainians know about it? 62% of Ukrainians don’t even know the date of the tragedy. Information about Chornobyl was always a secret, but today, when KGB files are published world needs to know the truth. And we need to rethink this tragedy in our past, which we were not even allowed to talk about. With help from Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, we want to overcome existing information disaster by finding new sense in tragedy on the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and its legacy: the Exclusion Zone” – Valerii Korshunov, author of the ARTEFACT project.

Application is developing by the experienced team, which has applications for the project HeForShe Ukraine, UN Women, EASY PAY in their portfolio, and the previous year, they’ve created an app which opened the portal to Chornobyl right from Burning Man festival!

As project coordinator for Chornobyl mobile application Mariia Tintul said:
“We believe that we can connect all functional and create a source which will allow free access to the historical and cultural legacy of the Chornobyl tragedy theme and will create the right reputation for all the country by high-quality, safe tours to the Exclusion Zone and acquaintance of the foreigners with history and art around such a phenomenon as Chornobyl.”

The project is implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management, the Chornobyl National Museum, the Center Pripyat.com. and the European Institute of Chornobyl.

The app and creators vision may differ or not fully resemble the UCF viewpoint.
