All information about the history of the text until the publication comes from an expat's artworks and amateur works on Slavic folklore P. Mirolyubova.
According to his stories, in 1919 the Volunteer Army Colonel Ali (Fedor Arturovich) Izenbek during the retreat from Moscow found abandoned and looted in the princely estate Zadonskaya (such princely family did not exist; supporters authenticity tablets offer different versions of the name of the estate owners), on the floor in plundered library wooden plank, covered with cryptic writings, and took them. All plates were roughly the same size - 38 × 22 cm, thickness of half a centimeter and had a hole for attaching a strap. The text was scrawled with an awl or burned and then covered with lacquer or oil. In papers Mirolyubova, besides the word "plank", also used the term doschki (genitive doschek) of unknown origin (it is absent in traditional Slavic monuments, and in most of Veles book, perhaps from Ukr. Doshka 'board'). Mirolubov so describes the circumstances of the finds:

"Izenbek found them in a looted Manor Zadonskaya not princes, not Don Dontsovs or do not remember, since he did not know exactly Izenbek their behalf. It was on the Kursk or Orlovsky direction. In 1925 Izenbek settled in Brussels, where learned about tablets Mirolubov, who took up their study.
