Exposes cases of famous martyrs such as John Wycliffe, John Huss, William Tyndale, Martin Luther, Thomas Cranmer and many others.

Why read this work in the 21st century?

Unfortunately, the issue of religious martyrdom refuses to be relegated to the archives of history. Christians in many countries now live and defend their faith under threat of death. Many end up paying the ultimate price. And each of these killings raises a question in the conscience of every Christian: what I would do in his place? The reflection inspired by the death of the martyrs can lead us to the heart of our faith.

John Foxe (1516-1587), author of the book, was born in England and studied at Oxford University. During the persecution of Protestants by Queen Mary Tudor, he went into exile in Germany and Switzerland, where he wrote the first edition of this work. The message of The Book of Martyrs shaped the religious and political consciousness of England for several centuries.
