The ball can be difficult for beginners because it creates an unstable surface, but with a little practice, an exercise ball can be a great tool and even help you use your muscles in new ways! The best way to use an exercise ball as a beginner is to practice simple core and leg exercises to build your confidence.

Basic-resistance exercises strengthen your core muscles, including your abdominal muscles, back muscles and the muscles around the pelvis. You can do a lot of basic-resistance exercises with a fitness ball. In general, use a fitness ball sized so that your knees are at a right angle when you sit on the ball with your feet flat on the floor. Do each core-strength exercise five times.

This low-intensity exercise strengthens your backside and abdominal muscles by stretching out your legs and extending your torso.

As you get stronger, gradually increase to 10 to 15 repetitions. Breathe freely and deeply and focus on strengthening your abs during each core-strength exercise. If you have back problems, osteoporosis or any other health problem, talk to your doctor before doing these basic-resistance exercises.
