Perjalanan karier Panbers yang dimotori oleh Benny Panjaitan, diawali dengan kemunculan pertama mereka lewat panggung di Istora Senayan Jakarta pada acara Jambore Bands 1970 yang membawa nama Panbers lebih dikenal luas. Di situ mereka sudah membawakan lagunya sendiri. Saat itu, mereka mentas dengan Koes Plus dan D’Lloyd. Usai dari situ, mereka mulai kerap muncul di TVRI, satu-satu siaran televisi yang ada di Indonesia era itu. Setelah kesempatan muncul di televisi semakin terbuka buat mereka, popularitas mereka pun mulai diperhitungkan.

Tahun 1971, Panbers membeli seperangkat alat musik milik Dara Puspita. Kelompok ini baru tiba dari konsernya di Jerman dengan memboyong alat musik bermerek ‘Marchell’. Benny langsung tertarik membelinya dengan harga semuanya Rp 10 juta. Sebuah nilai yang sangat besar saat itu. Dengan alat musik baru itu, Panbers tayang di TVRI. Melengkinglah lagu-lagu orisinil karya mereka sendiri seperti Bye Bye, Jakarta City Sound, Akhir Cinta, Hanya Semusim Bunga dan Hanya Padamu. Keberhasilan performance mereka di televisi rupanya menarik perhatian seorang Manajer perusahaan piringan hitam Dimita Molding Industries berdarah Minangkabau bernama Dick Tamimi. Dick Tamimi yang merupakan bekas pilot lalu merekrut mereka untuk bernaung di bawah perusahaan Dimita masuk ke dunia rekaman. Dia jugalah yang mengangkat band Koes Bersaudara, Dara Puspita, dan Rasela sebelumnya. Mereka diberi kepercayaan untuk mangabadikan lagu-lagu mereka ke dalam bentuk piringan hitam ebonite. Saat itu pula muncullah hit mereka yang abadi, Akhir Cinta yang selalu terpatri di hati penggemar blantika musik Indonesia. Satu tahapan kesuksesan mereka terenggut lewat long play ke-49 produksi PT. Dimita yang bersejarah itu pada tahun 1971.
