Hadis (arab. — xabar, gap, yangilik) — Muhammad (sav) aytgan so‘zlari, qilgan ishlari, iqrorlari to‘g‘risidagi rivoyat. Islom dinida Qur’-ondan keyin 2-manba hisoblanadi. H. 2 qismdan iborat bo‘ladi: matn va isnod. H. 2 turga — H.i qudsiy (ma’nosi Alloh taoloniki, aytilishi rasululloh tomonidan bo‘lgan H.lar) va H.i nabaviyga bo‘linadi. H.lar e’ti-borga olinishi jihatidan 3 qismga bo‘linadi: 1) sahih (ishonchli); 2) hasan (yaxshi); 3) zaif.

Qur’onda barcha huquqiy va axloqiy masalalar umumiy tarzda bayon etilgan. Ularga aniqlik kiritish va izohlash uchun Muhammad (sav) o‘z H.larini aytardi. Bu H.larni payg‘ambarlarning safdoshlari yodda saqlashga harakat qilardi. Payg‘ambar vafotidan so‘ng H.larni naql qilish odat tusiga kirdi. Shu munosabat bilan bir guruh musulmonlar uni yozma shaklda to‘play boshladilar. Birinchi H. kitobini Ibn Shihob az-Zuhriy yozdi. Undan keyin birin-ketin H. to‘plamlari tasnif etila boshladi. Lekin bu to‘plamlar muayyan tartibga solinmagan, boblarga ajratilmagan bo‘lib, ularda payg‘ambar H.lari bilan sahobalar va tobe’inlarning fatvolari chalkashtirib yuborilgan edi.
Bu hadislar Islomning asosi va o‘zagidir. Ulamolar bu haqda ko‘p ixtilof qilishgan. Ularning so‘zlaridan tug‘ilgan narsani o‘zim qo‘shgan narsa bilan jamlaganda o‘ttizta hadis bo‘ldi.
