Brasileirão Scoreboard - Serie A, with the champions, results and classification of the first division of the Brazilian championship.

The Brazilian Football Championship, also known as Campeonato Brasileiro, Brasileirão and Série A, is the Brazilian professional football league among Brazilian clubs, being the main football competition in the country. It is through them that the Brazilian representatives are nominated for the Copa Libertadores de America (along with the Brazilian Cup champion).

Due to the historical peculiarities and the great geographic dimension of the country, Brazil has a relatively short history of national soccer competitions. Only in 1959, as established in 1955, was created a national tournament with the purpose of pointing the club Brazilian champion of the season, the Brazilian Cup. In 1967, the Rio-São Paulo Tournament was expanded to include teams from other states, becoming known as Roberto Gomes Pedrosa Tournament, and became a national competition. In 1971, CBD began a new national tournament, the National Championship of Clubs, this tournament, which was considered, between 1974 and 2010, by the maximum body of Brazilian football as the first edition of the Brazilian Championship. In its official bulletins between 1971 and 1973, the CBF placed the editions of the "Robertão" on equal terms with subsequent editions of the Brazilian Championship, keeping only the proper names, excluding this information as of the bulletin of 1974. In December 2010 , CBF unified the Brazil Cup, played from 1959 to 1968, and the 1967 to 1970 editions of the Roberto Gomes Pedrosa / Taça de Plata Tournament to the Brazilian Championship after 1971. The first Brazilian champion was Bahia in 1959.

One of the historical characteristics of the Brazilian Championship was the lack of a standardization in the dispute system, which changed each year, as well as the rules and the number of participants. Among the various formats already adopted are eliminatory system (1959-1968) and mixed group systems (1967-2002). The championship dispute formula was standardized only in 2003, when it was adopted the points system with all the teams facing each other in turn and return. Palmeiras is the team with the highest number of Brazilian titles, with ten achievements; since the creation of the event in 1959, seventeen clubs have been Brazilian champions, twelve more than once, from seven states and nine different cities, with only the state of São Paulo having championed by more than one city, three in total (Campinas, Santos and São Paulo), and only the city of Rio de Janeiro had more than three championship clubs, four of them (Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense and Vasco da Gama). These characteristics demonstrate the competitiveness level of the championship.

The Brazilian Championship is one of the strongest leagues in the world, counting among its habitual members with the participation of the largest number of clubs holding titles of "world champions", with eleven championships won by 7 clubs, the second in terms of amount of titles of the Copa Libertadores of America, with eighteen titles conquered by 10 clubs and still 3 other finalists, behind in titles only of the First Division Argentina, with 25 titles conquered by 8 clubs and a ninth club finalist.
